Paulo Sinski Microband
BIO - SHORT (2020/2021)
Roughly 18 years ago, the Paulo Sinski Microband could have sat nicely in the space between The Rapture and Simian Mobile Disco. A two-piece group, synths and a drum kit. They do remixes. The blogs couldn’t have asked for more.
But at the end of 2019, the Paulo Sinski Microband realized they were never going to fit inside a DJ booth. Literally, because the drum set wouldn't go back there. Metaphorically, because the electronic duo had outgrown the dance floor.
The band’s first video features them performing in an abandoned construction site. Paulo plays synths in safety glasses, Hector plays drums with a hard hat. The snare drum hits like a nailgun. The synths scream like an angle grinder. That song is the Microband's debut single, “PPE / LFO” released in May 2020 by Cosmic Resonance Records.
Originally, the Paulo Sinski Microband was meant to be the live component to Paulo’s solo techno productions. Though the initial idea is still there, the band has mutated into a completely original entity.
After a quiet year inside, the Microband looks forward to a 2021 where they can step out onto the stage again. Their enthusiasm for performing live hasn't faded and they have plenty of exciting new material to premiere.

Originally, the Paulo Sinski Microband was meant to be a different dimension to Paulo’s techno productions. The band’s live performance was organized like a DJ set - crescendos over multiple songs, seamless transitions. While Paulo’s still a fan of the DJ format, he soon realized there was a whole dimension of their performance missing.
“While learning how to act on stage, I watched videos of David Bowie, Lightning Bolt, the Beastie Boys, and realized that they made their own rules about how they performed. My experience as a DJ taught me the hyper-functional approach to music; push buttons, get people to dance. I realized that mindset was holding our project back.” Paulo Sinski
The band’s first video features them performing in an abandoned construction site. Paulo wears safety glasses, Hector a hard hat. The snare drum hits like a nailgun. The synths scream like an angle grinder. It’s called “PPE” and there’s nothing subtle about it. Cosmic Resonance Records caught wind of the video, and the Microband joined their roster at the end of 2019, joining their friends Korea Town Acid, Raf Reza and Hemingway. Their debut single, “PPE / LFO” was released in May 2020. A tour was planned, but cancelled. At this point, Paulo assumes you know why.
They’ve had a whole year to figure out a new approach. Isolated from each other in Toronto, Paulo and Hector have reinvented the creative process from scratch. Paulo found new textures with human voices and distortion, using new AI-based production and composition techniques. The band threw out the drum machine, and now Hector's drum performances hold down the entire rhythm on their own. Interesting choice for a band who’s debut single was written on a 909.
After a quiet year inside, the Microband looks forward to a 2021 where they can step out onto the stage again. Their enthusiasm for the project hasn’t been dampened and they have plenty of exciting new material to premiere.
